Intelligent Measurement of Water Vapor Transmission Rate of Exterior Building Materials

With increasing focus on energy efficient and sustainable building envelopes, the need to define the heat-air-moisture transport (hygrothermal) properties of building materials accurately cannot be overemphasized. New techniques have been evolving and being examined for this purpose. The Modified Cup Method is one such technique to determine the water vapour transmission properties of building materials. This paper uses C360M Water Vapor Transmission Rate Test System to test the water vapor transmission rate of an exterior wall coating, and introduces the test principle, test instrument specifications, application scope, and test procedure, in hope to provide a reference for further studies on water vapor permeability of building materials.

How to Test Water Vapor Barrier Property of Latex Paint

Latex paint is one common organic paint that is used in construction industry, which is also known as acrylic paint. There are mainly two types of paint on the market, acrylic paint and oil-based paint. Acrylic latex paint is made with water and an acrylic resin binder. All paints are composed of a solid, binders and pigments and a vehicle such as water for latex paint. After latex paint is applied to a wall, it [...]

How to test water vapor barrier property of aluminum plastic composite film used for protein powder?

Protein powder is one very common health care product, which has become more and more popular as a nutritional supplement. Protein powders come in various forms. The three common ones are whey, soy, and casein protein. The common packaging materials used for protein powder include aluminum plastic composite film, aluminized composite film and metal cans. Once the water vapor in external environment enter inside the package, the protein powder may become caking and eventually get [...]

Moisture Barrier Property Test of Medical Dressing

A dressing is a sterile pad or compress applied to a wound to promote healing and protect the wound from further harm. A dressing is designed to be in direct contact with the wound, as distinguished from a bandage, which is most often used to hold a dressing in place. Many modern dressings are self-adhesive. Traditional dressing uses natural gauze as material, which has a lot of defects e.g. it is liable to be stuck [...]

Moisture Barrier Property Test Method of Aluminized Film

Aluminized film is one kind of high barrier packaging material, which is widely used in flexible plastic packaging industry. Aluminized film is plastic film coated with a thin layer of aluminum oxide. The common aluminized films include VMPET, VMCPP and VMBOPP, etc. Those aluminized films can be used as packaging material independently or laminated with other films to form aluminum laminated films. The aluminum oxide coated on the surface of the plastic film is the [...]

Test Method for Moisture Barrier Property of EVOH Copolymer Sheeting

Ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) is a formal copolymer of ethylene and vinyl alcohol, which is one new type of material with good barrier property. EVOH copolymer is defined by the mole% ethylene content: lower ethylene content grades have higher barrier properties; higher ethylene content grades have lower temperatures for extrusion. EVOH is commonly used as an oxygen barrier in food packaging such as aseptic package, hot-filled package and retort pouch, etc., which are mainly used [...]

How to test the moisture resistance of the flexible package for anti-influenza granules?

The anti-influenza granules are usually packed in unit-dose package, which is convenient to the patients. In order to avoid quality problems such as caking and mildewing, the moisture contained in the anti-influenza granules shall be minimized. Since the surface area of the anti-influenza granule is relatively large, it is liable to absorb moisture. If it is stored in an improper way, those quality problems mentioned above may occur to the product. Therefore, it is necessary [...]

Moisture Permeability Test of PE Film Used for Disposable Baby Diaper

A diaper (herein referred to disposable diaper) is a type of underwear that allows the wearer to defecate or urinate without the use of a toilet, by absorbing or containing waste products to prevent soiling of outer clothing or the external environment. Disposable baby diaper usually has a layered construction which allows the transfer and distribution of urine to an absorbent core structure where it is locked in. Basic layers are an outer shell of [...]

Moisture Permeability Test Method of Aluminum Tea Tin

The tea may get mildewed after absorbing moisture especially in high humidity environment. In order to overcome this problem, the tea manufacturers usually use plastic composite films, aluminized plastic composite films, aluminum plastic composite films and tins in packing of the tea. All those materials mentioned above shall have sufficient moisture barrier property. With the development of the packaging industry, a new form of packaging is emerging as the packaging of tea i.e. aluminum tea [...]

Water Vapor Moisture Barrier Property Test of PV Backsheets

Solar panel refers to a panel designed to absorb the sun’s rays as a source of energy for generating electricity or heating. As the main component of solar panel, the PV back sheets must protect the solar cells properly, because the solar panel is usually exposed to the external environment. Commonly used materials for PV back sheets include TPT, BBF, TPE, EVA, among which TPT has the highest barrier property. TPT is one kind of [...]
